How to Calculate the Planetary Nodes with Solar Fire

How to view Planetary Nodes in Solar Fire

    by Patrick Graham

In this tutorial I am going to show you how to view Planetary Node positions around a natal chart using Solar Fire Gold v.8.

    1.  We first need to create the file that contains the Planetary Node positions.  This is very easy. Start by going to Chart Options – Extra Ring Points:

    2. In the Extra Ring Points window go to Create. In the Create New File dialogue that pops up, go ahead and name your new file “Planetary Nodes,” then click OK. (note: I already had a file named Planet Nodes that I had created).

    3. With your new Planetary Node file selected click on Edit and the Extra Point Selection window opens. At the bottom of the Point Type list, to the right, you will find Node. Select that option and the available points become listed. Select the North (Nth) Node and South (Sth) Node of each planet by selecting the name and clicking Add at the bottom of that list. You should get something looking like this below:

If you have a particular Astro Font you are fond of then you can apply that using the Glyph selection dialogue at the bottom left of the window. Solar Fire will add the relevant prefix, N or S, to your chosen glyph. In addition, you can create your own abbreviation (in the chart view window (which we’ll get to shortly) there is the option to display your planetary nodes as an abbreviation rather than a glyph if you prefer). I have also applied my favourite planet colours to match the planet colours in the main chart view window. Once you’ve finished selecting the Planetary Nodes simply Save the file which will return you to the Extra Ring Points window. With your new file highlighted click Select and you are returned to the main Solar Fire window.

    4. Next, open any chart and view it. Here I have chosen Albert Einstein and it’s displaying a Uniwheel design because that’s the previous loaded Wheel Style I was using.

To view your newly created Planetary Node file simply click the Wheel Style menu button and scroll down to choose one of the Uniextra files. These Uniextra files will display your extra ring points in a manner similar to a BiWheel. Click Select and you are done!
